The Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) Board held it’s first meeting for 2025 on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th February in Sydney. Among other matters, the key issues discussed were:
New Chairperson
Jody Chester was elected as the new chairperson of WACHS. Jody is a Wiradjuri woman from Wellington and has had a long career in health and community services. She brings this experience to the role along with a passion to support and improved the health, social and economic outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Annual Report 2024
The WACHS Annual Report for 2024 was approved for release. The Annual Report shows strong financial and program growth for WACHS. The Report complies with WACHS responsibilities under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006, Australian Accounting Standards and the requirements of all of our funding bodies.
Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer
The Board approved the appointment of Megan Humphries to the role of Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer for a period up to six months. Megan, a Wiradjuri woman from Wellington, already has a comprehensive understanding of WACHS’ operations having held different roles within the organisation and Management experience with NSW Health. Megan commenced her duties on Monday 10 February 2025.
Office of the Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations examination
WACHS has been selected by the Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations for an examination of its books under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006. The examination will commence in March 2025 and WACHS looks forward to working closely with officers involved with the examination.
